| How to Clean Comforters |
Cleaning a comforter is just as necessary as cleaning anything else in your house. Unless it is visibly soiled or stained, it is recommended to clean a comforter every 3 years. Frequent cleaning may cause damage. You can take care of your comforter by fluffing the comforters frequently. This will prevent matting and remove moisture to the inside down or other fillings. Cover the comforter with a duvet cover. This enables you to wash the cover as often as you like without damaging the comforter. Hang the comforter outside, away from the sun when possible.
A comforter that is properly covered will need to be cleaned very infrequently, if at all and using a professional cleaner who will launder (not dry clean) and thoroughly dry your comforter is recommended. It is fine to dry clean your comforter, but this can leave a chemical odor. After washing (or whenever storing), do not store it in plastic. Allow it to air. Satin comforters are mostly dry washed whereas silk comforters are easy to clean. As silk layers are damaged by contact with water, they only need to be dried under the sun twice a year to maintain their freshness. |
